First United Church of Christ

in 1864 First United Church was organized as All souls German reformed Church. It was part of a for church charge which consisted of the Mount Pleasant charge – Saint Paul’s near trauger, St John’s at middle churches, Zion Church near alberton, and All souls. This was 36 years before Mount Pleasant was made into a burrow. at first the bird do not take in hitchman Street. Later the bar was expanded in the church property was In The Borough

AllAll souls German reformed Church was organized in the college chapel in 1864. The Rev j A Peters was the first pastor. In 1869 the general synod of the gentleman reformed Church for the drop the word German from its name. The new name for the denomination was the reformed Church of the u.s. of n a. On July 26th 1871 the Cornerstone was laid for a new building at the northeast corner of Main and hitchman streets under the name St Peter’s reformed Church in the dedication for the new frame building was held on April 14th 1872. The Rev DB Lindy was called as the new pastor on June 30th 1872.

the congregation has been served by many pastors best of whom only stayed only a few years however the reference CR furner was called in 1885 and remained for 10 years during which time the frame church was moved to the rear lot of hitchman and Smithfield Street and later sold to the Polish Catholic Church.

at the same time the new church was built the name is change from first reformed Church in Mount Pleasant PA. Two years later the educational building was built at the back of the building and extensive improvements were made on the first floor with new hardwood floor, new pews, new chance of furniture, and I knew to Manuel moller pipe organ.

in 1963, the pipe organ was repaired in enlarged. In 1964, first church was called the Reverend Benjamin Griffin, a graduate of Andover Newton theological seminary of the former congregational Christian churches. Rev Griffin was an ordained into the ministry installed as pastor of First Church, Mount Pleasant PA today Reverend Griffin is president of the endeavor Newton theological seminary.

now in 2003, our pastor is mr. Paul sarver, lay Minister. Pastor Paul presents many and lightning and educational programs and oversees the ongoing repairs to the building. The president project is to repair and update the Oregon, and when completed will be one of the funnest organs in the region.
